Anita Ruth Begley Campbell, 90, of Doerun, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, with Chaplain Tim Johns officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Anita Begley grew up in the Coal Mining Country of Eastern Kentucky. She enjoyed playing in the creek and even walking to school in the snow. She loved telling stories about her great memories of playing in the woods and catching rabbits with her siblings, especially Betty Lou and Paul. Stories that included her lifelong friend of 80 years: Lucy Jane. She joined the Army during the Korean War and trained to be a Medic. She served in Germany for two years. After she returned to Kentucky, she met the love of her life, Lester Campbell. They were married for almost 60 years until his death in 2018. She was the mother of 8 children whom she raised to be great citizens and wonderful human beings. She was instrumental in the lives of many more children from Doerun at her daycare. Many still come back to see her, especially Eric Hall. Anita was a strong and stubborn woman, but it took that to raise eight children while her husband served in the Navy and Air Force for 21 years. She taught her kids to pray, respect others and stand up for themselves. She had many hobbies throughout her life. Her favorite hobby was working in the yard, tending to her Day Lillies, Amaryllises, and pruning her Dogwoods and Redbuds.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester Campbell; children, Mollie Ann Campbell; and siblings, Pleas Begley, Irene Kelly, and Paul Begley.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by her children, Michael and Carol Campbell, Gregory Lester and Sissy Campbell, Cliffie and Steve Mcfarlin, Elizabeth and Tim Johns, Jeffery and Charla Campbell, Eddie and Karma Campbell, and Hallie and Ken Sanders; grandchildren, Michael Campbell, Jr., Shannon and Heather Parker, Jody and Lori Parker, Brandi and Travis Rogers, Montana Campbell, Adam and Rachel Campbell, Joshua and Jhernelle Campbell, Alaina Campbell, Matthew Johns, JohnMark and Brittany Johns, Jordan and Kash Campbell, Dalton Campbell, Steven Sanders, and Cameron Brinson; great-grandchildren, Hayden Parker, Reed Parker, Cade Parker, Dodge Racer Rogers, Saylor Ann Campbell, Layla Campbell, Griffin Campbell, Ria McGuire, and Kairi Johns; sister, Betty Lou Vinsel; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will gather at Mrs. Campbell's home on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
