Arthur Roberts

Arthur Roberts, 70, of Tifton, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, in Norman Park. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Steve Purvis and Ricky Purvis officiating. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton. Casketbearers will be Matt Weeks, Eric Young, Matt Stinson, Joey Stinson, John Cantrell and Chris Moxley. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Brinson, Johnny Calhoun, Ken Snipes and David Plymel. Born Oct. 17, 1941, in Mitchell County, Roberts was the son of late Wade R. Roberts and the late Pennie V. Massey Roberts. He retired from Hubbell in 2006 and was of the Baptist faith. He was a long-time resident of Tifton, having moved from Moultrie. He enjoyed playing his guitar, family said, and was part of the Tift Co. Lanes Bowling League. He was preceded in death by a father-in-law, W.L. "Loyd" Tanner; a brother-in-law, Danny Tanner; and twin sisters Lois and Lorena Roberts. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Dianne Tanner Roberts of Tifton; mother-in-law Margaret Wheeler Tanner of Tifton; a son, Chad Lashley of Orion, Ga.; three daughters, Brenda Plymel and husband David of Moultrie, Linda Smith of Norman Park, and Sandy Stinson of Tifton; two sisters, Doris Brinson and husband William of Moultrie, and Maomie Roberts of Funston; two brothers, Theron Roberts of Funston and Vernon R. Roberts and wife Terri of Moultrie; grandchildren Jessica Weeks and husband Matt, Lisa Young and husband Eric, Miranda Hamm and husband Lee, Chris Moxley, Matt Stinson, Joey Stinson and Katie Lashley; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
