Betty Josephine Griffin Vittum, 87, of Leesburg, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Pinecrest Memory Gardens, with Reverend Mike Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born on July 22, 1937, in Thomasville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Romeo Griffin, Sr. and Josephine Williams Griffin. Betty Jo dedicated many years of her life to her work at Belk Hudson Clothing Store in the shoe department. She made countless friends and touched the lives of all who knew her. Her dedication and warm spirit left a mark on the store and its patrons after retirement. Mrs. Vittum cherished her family. She was a proud mother of four beautiful daughters who were her greatest joy and the center of her world. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Buck C. Vittum; grandson, Jason Watson; great-granddaughter, Mary Linen Blease; and siblings, Barzilla Robinson and Andrew Romeo Griffin, Jr.
She is survived by her cherished daughters, Cheryl Cottrell Boyd and husband Lyle of Nashville, Denise Cottrell Hiers and husband Darrell of Arizona, Nancy Cottrell Young and husband Jeff of Moultrie, Natalie Cottrell Stoner and husband Gary of Leesburg, and Teri Hester and husband Danny of Nashville; Stepdaughter, Judy Inboden; grandchildren, Darren Hiers and wife Natalia, Ashley Hornbuckle and husband Shannon, Cyndi Lindsey, Ericka Pittman and husband Skyler, Brianna Young, Griffin Hiers and wife Kayla, MaKinzy Boyd, Will Young, Brian Hester and girlfriend Felicia Sandstrom, Mandy Soeffner and husband Josh; step-granddaughter, Carissa McKinney and husband Mitchell of Moultrie; and great-grandchildren, Abby, Ella, Isaiah, Elijah, Bentley, Jace, Reid, Nora, Ellie, Sadler, Finley Grace, Mercy Kate, Alden, Ava, Eli, Brody, Nolan; siblings, Liner Ann Wood of Nashville and Hirman Russell Griffin and wife Jeanne, also of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
