Brenice “Bootsie” Murphy Ricks, 92, of Moultrie, died Monday, June 21, 2021 at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Cashwell officiating.
Born on September 16, 1928, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Murphy, Sr. and Bernice Beasley Murphy. Ms. Ricks was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and she worked with her sister at Cheese and Feed.
Bootsie was a wonderful story teller who enchanted her audience. She was an avid reader and was proud to say she always had a library card since she was six years old. Bootsie loved her family, both immediate and extended. She was the matriarch of the Murphy clan and her passing left a big void in the family. Much of Bootie’s life was lived in Cocoa, FL where she and her husband reared their children. They were able to see the development of the space program at Kennedy Space Center. No matter what sorrow or hardship befell her, Bootsie woke each day believing that something wonderful would happen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louie W. Ricks, Sr.; son, Louie Ricks, Jr.; grandson, Joseph Haskard; brothers, Frank Murphy, Jr., Russell Murphy, Max Murphy, Neil Murphy; and sister, Faye Murphy.
Ms. Ricks is survived by her sons, David Ricks and Ken Ricks and wife Tina all of Moultrie; daughter, Jo Anne Ricks Haskard of Moultrie; grandchildren, Walter Haskard, Kyle Ricks, Caleb Ricks and Erin Barfield, and Breeann Medina; great grandchildren, Ansley Haskard, Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Haskard, Sawyer Ricks, Jordan Carraway, Paisley Medina, and Frances Ricks, due to be born in October; brother, Gerald Murphy and wife Debbie of Free Port, Fl; sisters, Joyce Hopkins of Moultrie, and Bonnie May and husband Dwight of Moultrie; and she was a adored aunt to dozens of nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
