Carmen Cowart “MeMaw” Hicks, 91, of Moultrie, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, with Reverend Robert Tilson and Reverend Julian Griner officiating. Interment will follow at Cobb/Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Shannon Hicks, Shane Miller, Corey Hicks, Heath DeLoach, Wayne Bryant, and Michael Ward will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born on July 26, 1933, in Moultrie, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Willie Estelle Cowart and Ruby Lee Gregory Cowart. A longtime resident of Cotton Mill, she was known for her deep love of family, faith, and the simple joys of life. Memaw took great pride in her yard, spending countless hours tending to it with care and dedication. Yard work was more than a task for her—it was a passion. She also found immense joy in attending Temple Baptist Church, where her faith remained a cornerstone of her life.

She dedicated many years to her career, working as the manager of shipping and receiving at Bridgeport Brass and later at Textron. Her strong work ethic and leadership left a lasting impact on those she worked with.

Above all, Carmen adored her family. She was the proud mother of seven children, the cherished grandmother of 15 grandchildren, and the beloved great-grandmother to 32 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the delicious aromas of her incredible cooking. She was especially known for baking cakes and making candy, a treasured tradition she carried on every Christmas—her favorite time of the year.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Hicks, Sr., children, Kay Hicks, Aaron Hicks, and Mike Hicks; and sister, Geraldine Cowart.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her children, George Hicks, Jr. and wife Margie of Moultrie, Debbie Miller and husband Tyrone of Ashburn, Steve Hicks of Gainesville, FL, and Danny Hicks and wife Kim of Moultrie; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, daughters in law, Denise Hicks of Moultrie, and Missy Hicks of Leesburg.
