MOULTRIE Carrol Dean Conger, 62, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at First Baptist Church of Moultrie with the Rev. Wayne Wood officiating, assisted by the Rev. Brian Blackburn and the Rev. Jimmy Voyles. Burial will follow in Deep Bottom Cemetery with Brandon Conger, Johnny Lewis, Jimmy Conger, Tony Conger, Bill Burt, James Green, Jacob Burt and Garrett Burt serving as pallbearers. Born Feb. 14, 1952, in Norman Park, he was the son of the late Edd F. Conger and Lettie Hall Conger. He was a self-employed logger and timber buyer for 30 years and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany. In a company of 128 men he was honored as the outstanding mortar crewman of his company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie. He was also a member of Master Timber Harvesters, Disabled American Veterans, and National Guard until 1980. "He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. He loved people and was a kind person," his family remarked of him. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis Conger and Homer Conger; and a sister, Ruby C. Culpepper. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Linda Roberts Conger of Moultrie; son, Kyle Conger and wife Laura of Valdosta; daughter, Lisa Chambers Owen and husband Andy of Alapaha, Ga.; brothers, Gene Conger and wife Marie of Norman Park and Roy Conger and wife Ann of Moultrie; sisters, Agnus Graves and husband Donald of Conyers, Ga., Annie Mae Lewis and husband John of Moultrie and Margaret C. Peterson of Belvidere, Ill.; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Conger of Moultrie; grandchildren, Caroline Chambers, Sam Chambers, Jacob Conger, Kathryn Conger and Elizabeth Conger; several nieces and nephews; and a special pet, Sawyer. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or DAV. Visitation will be today, Nov. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Baker Funeral Home.
