Charles Lavone King

Charles Lavone King, 81, of Moultrie, passed away at the Colquitt Regional Medical Center on April 10, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on June 18, 1943, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Thomas Charles King and Ethel Mae King. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1962 and attended Georgia Southern University. Throughout much of his life, he proudly served his country, first in the United States Army in Germany, and later as an employee at the Marine Corps Logistics base in Albany, Georgia, where he worked for more than thirty years. During his service in the Army, Mr. King gained a profound appreciation for the valuable freedoms we enjoy in the United States, having personally observed how the communist regime created by the Soviet occupation of East Germany oppressed its citizens. At the Marine base, he worked on teams that repaired and refurbished tanks and critical military vehicles, including those used in Operation Desert Storm, the Iraq War and Afghanistan.

Mr. King was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for more than forty years. He loved that congregation and cherished the many friendships he made there through the years. He cared deeply for his family and cherished spending time with his two grandsons. He believed in a life of humble service to others and often helped those who were experiencing hard times. He especially enjoyed volunteering at the Colquitt County Food Bank.

Mr. King is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Suzette Cook King of Moultrie; son Todd King and his wife Marianna of Park City, Utah; daughter Tonja King of Moultrie; grandsons Sam and Huntley King, both of Atlanta; and his brother, Travis King and his wife Annette, both of Moultrie, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses, CNAs, physical therapists, radiology, and other staff at the Colquitt Regional Medical Center and Colquitt Regional Senior Care facility who cared for Mr. King before his passing, as well as his private caregivers. The family is especially appreciative of Dr. Gary Swartzentruber.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with Reverend Andy Cashwell officiating. Sam King, Huntley King, Coby King, Cam Davis, Greg Davis, and Scott Trammel will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet guests in the church social hall after the funeral service. A private family interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 126 Mt. Olive Church Road, Moultrie, GA 31788, or to the Colquitt Regional Medical Center, 3131 S. Main Street, Moultrie, GA 31768.
