Dewey S. Mercer, Jr., 84, of Pavo, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2020 in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Corey Shiver and Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. John Christopher Mercer, Braxton M. Mercer, Brandon M. Mercer, James Tyler Cobb, Justin D. Bates, Jimmy Dean Benton, John Brettan Smith, Thomas Ryan Mercer, and Aaron Matthew Mercer will all serve as pallbearers.
Born on September 13, 1935, in Macon, Georgia, he was the son of the late Dewey S. Mercer, Sr. and Mary Lucille Taylor. He was a used car dealer with Johnny & Sons Auto Sales in Moultrie for over 40 years. Some hobbies he enjoyed was an avid outdoorsman. He was never caught without a fishing pole and tackle box in the back of his vehicle. Johnny was far more that that, he was a selfless, loving, protector of his family. He loved all his customers and friends and enjoyed playing darts and checkers with them at the car lot. He was a "Beast of a Man", wonderful daddy, and super papa. He had hands of steel and a heart of Gold.        "That's our daddy."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Ann; sister, June Cole; and two brothers, Robert Leland Mercer and Edmond Jackson Taylor.
Mr. Mercer is survived by his wife Ruth Ann Mercer of Pavo; sons, Charles M. Mercer and wife Connie of Moultrie, John Tracy Mercer and wife Tammie of Pavo; daughter, Dana M. Benton and husband Jimmy of Moultrie, and Patricia M. Smith and husband Timothy of Pavo; grandchildren, John Christopher Mercer and wife Kayla, Braxton M. Mercer and wife Erin, Brandon M. Mercer and wife Ally, Ashley R. Harlow, Justin D. Bates, Tyler Cobb, Jimmy D. Benton, Jr., Lauren A. Hembree and husband Ryan, John B. Smith, Danielle M. Benton, Thomas R. Mercer and Aaron M. Mercer; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary H. Fricks of Chapel Hill, Tennessee and Mary Blevins and husband Phillip of Middleburg, Florida; brothers, Willie (Buddy) Mercer and wife Joyce of Moultrie, Edward Mercer and wife Linda of Durham, NC, Danny Mercer and wife Diane, and Michael Taylor, all of Jacksonville, Florida
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
