Donnie Lynell Herndon MOULTRIE Donnie Lynell Herndon, 89, of Moultrie, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Fla. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memory Gardens with Mark Johnson, Mickey Johnson, Marty Johnson, Josh Okeefe, Donnie Herndon, Greg Hall and Zackary Staller serving as pallbearers. Born April 5, 1925, in Pavo, he was the son of the late Jasper R. Herndon and Sallie Elizabeth Prosser Herndon. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War and W.W.II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Battle Bulge and European Ribbon. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Clifton Herndon; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his son, Raymond Herndon and wife Sandy of Moultrie; daughters, Bonnie Simmons of Colorado, Ervene Herndon of Moultrie and Connie Johnson and husband Larry of Tifton; a brother; grandchildren, Mitchell Simmons, Rachel Simmons, Donnie Herndon, Brittany Faircloth, Mickey Johnson, Marty Johnson, Ashley Okeefe and Mark Johnson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
