Dorothy Hart Gay Spruill MOULTRIE Dorothy Hart Gay Spruill, 79, of Moultrie died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Unihealth Magnolia Manor South. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Andy Cashwell and Jimmy Albritton officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery with Patrick Gay, Eric Freedman, Bradley Hart, Brodie Herring, Bob Hart and Andy O'Neal serving as pallbearers. Born Oct. 4, 1934, in Pavo, Ga., Mrs. Spruill was the daughter of the late Walter Lee Hart and Sarah Ruth Farmer Hart. "Her birthday on earth became her birthday in heaven," her family said. She worked as human resource manager at Bridgeport Brass and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Spruill was extremely active in the community and participated in many groups. She was active in the Lively Bunch at Mt. Olive and the senior groups at Oakdale and First Baptist. She volunteered at Pink Pearl Gift Shop at the hospital and was a "Blue Bird of Happiness" member there as well. Mrs. Spruill grew up singing with her sisters, the Hart Sisters, and sang all over the surrounding counties and on the radio. She continued singing and playing the piano sharing her gift with others, singing at senior centers, funerals, weddings and family reunions. She was an avid gardner. "Dorothy's yard is a year round flower garden and she shared many of her famous daylilies with people," her family said. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Guy L. Gay, and second husband, Stan E. Spruill. Survivors include a son, Randy Gay and wife Patricia of Moultrie; a daughter, Sherry Freedman and husband David of Marietta, Ga.; three brothers, Guy W. Hart and wife Jackie, Donald L. Hart and wife Elmyra and Wandell E. "Buddy" Hart and wife Gladys, all of Moultrie; three sisters, Carolyn Herring and husband Jerry of Madison, Fla, Regina Hart Pilkinton of Albany and Shirley Blanton and husband Bill of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Patrick R. Gay and wife Nikki of South Carolina, Lauren Beth Freedman and Eric Freedman of Marietta, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Jacob R. Gay of South Carolina. Visitation was 6 -8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
