E.L. "Mann" Waites

E.L. “Mann” Waites, 88, of Norman Park, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Buck Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Moree officiating. Interment will follow at Buck Creek Church Cemetery. Glenn Hiers, Donnie Roberts, Ray Waites, Tim Waites, Josh Pope, and Chad Roberts will serve as pallbearers. The Deacons of Buck Creek, James Sutton, John Paul Sutton, Greg Keigans, Blane Walden, and Dink Roberts will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born on October 29, 1934, in Lawrence County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Clarence Calvin Waites and Lola Pearl Stripling Waites. He was a farmer and a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board for more than 50 years and decades as Music Director. Mann was a loving father and grandfather as well as a devoted brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was known for his love of God, family, his community, and dancing. He was quick witted and a life-long learner who was always interested in the news of developments in the world. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his ability to make his family, friends, and even strangers, feel loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Dennis Lamar Waites and Jamie Lynn Waites; great-grandsons, Niles Gengenbach and Mason Bennett; brothers, Cullen Waites, Calhoun Waites, and Jerry Waites; and sisters, Aubrey Waites Cannady, Juanita Waites Weeks, Lazelle Waites Roberts, Hazel Waites Hartsfield, and Loyas Waites McGill.
Mr. Waites is survived by his wife, Vickie Wilbourn Waites of Sylvester; son, Greg Waites and wife Ann of Norman Park; daughter-in-law, Carol Rountree Waites of Norman Park; grandchildren, Shelby Johnson and husband Eric of Texas, Lisa Bennett and husband Barry of North Carolina, Jeannie Salter and husband Ray of Sylvester, Burt Waites of Norman Park, and Katie Copeland and husband Wes Of Moultrie; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Dickson, Lane Bennett, and Brayden Bock.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
