Earl C. Thompson, 89, of Tifton, Georgia, passed away at Maple Court Assisted Living on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
A private family service will be held with Reverend Rob Craft Officiating. Interment will follow at Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Born on September 15, 1934, in Beaver Dam, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Earl Cicero Thompson and Flora Dorcus Thompson. He worked as an engineer for AT&T. Earl’s love for cinema, especially the history and charm of the Lone Pine Film Festival, was well known. He and Betty participated enthusiastically year after year, sharing their passion with friends and fellow festival-goers. He was also a proud veteran of the US Army, serving his country with honor and distinction. His dedication to service extended beyond his military career, as he was also a highly respected member of the Elks Lodge, where he held high ranks and contributed significantly to numerous charitable causes. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Watkins Thompson; and his brother, Elbert Layton Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughters, Kim Meistad of Panama City Beach, Kay Simmons and husband Alan of Panama City Beach, Beverly Ann Davis of Panama City Beach, and Jeffrey Davis of Texas; stepdaughter, Lynn Watkins Peavy and husband Von of Moultrie; stepsons, James H. Watkins II and wife Arlene of Warner Robins, and Christopher H. Watkins and wife Sherry of Dunn, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jari Meistad, Jana Meistad, David Simmons, Jacob Ewing, Erin Peavy, Kimberly Peavy, and Mitch Peavy; one great-grandson, Greyson Peavy; and sister, Jeanette Anderson of Hope Mills, NC.
