Moultrie - Ed Franklin Willis, III, 77, of Moultrie, Ga., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Fellowship Home at Brookside in Valdosta, Ga.
A private graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Willis was born on January 6, 1943, in Tifton, Ga., to Janet Thompson Willis and Eddie Franklin Willis, Jr., both deceased. He received undergraduate degrees from both ABAC and the University of Georgia. In addition, he received a Masters degree in Education from the University of Georgia and a Leadership Specialist degree from Valdosta State College.
Mr. Willis lived his adult life in Moultrie with his wife of 53 years, Karen Palmer Willis. They met as young school teachers, and he went on to serve the majority of his career as a Principal. He served in this capacity for several years at Funston Elementary, and enjoyed 26 years at R.B. Wright Elementary. He loved his career which allowed him to fulfill his sincere desire to educate and encourage children. He is remembered by many for Friday Chapel programs where he recognized students for efforts and achievements both large and small. He understood the value of hearing your name called, and knew the name of every student who came through his school. He appreciated the beautiful campus, and instilled in students the importance of respecting it by not littering or walking through the beauty spots.
For 50 years, Mr. Willis was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Moultrie where he served in many leadership roles. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. In addition, Mr. Willis served on many local boards in Moultrie and volunteered in many capacities in various sectors of the community. He enjoyed jogging, fishing, hunting and playing golf. Most of all he loved being with and supporting his family.
Mr. Willis is survived by his loving wife Karen; daughter Leigh Willis Bailey and husband William of Americus, Ga; daughter Laura Willis Dunaway and husband Dave of Augusta, Ga;sister Linda Willis Hampton and husband Troy of Tifton, Ga; sister Ruth Willis Cofer of Sweetwater, TN; grandchildren Julia Caroline Bailey, Emily Claire Bailey, Samuel Willis Dunaway, and Katherine Lane Dunaway.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association, or charity of your choice.
