Eugene Talmadge Tompkins MOULTRIE Eugene Talmadge Tompkins, 79, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Sardis Church Cemetery. The Rev. John Bell will officate, and pallbearers will be Steve, David and Marty Hufstetler, David Russell, Kim Griffin and Richard Strickland. Mr. Tompkins was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Moultrie to the late Artie T. Tompkins and Evie Eldridge Tompkins. He was a Christian and was retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was a veteran. Mr. Tompkins was credited with saving the lives of two children. He and his wife spent years buying, selling and restoring antiques, and he loved Christmas decorations. Mr. Tompkins married the love of his life, Joan Flowers Tompkins, on June 29, 1963. In addition to his wife, survivors include two brothers, Marion Tompkins and wife Patricia of Valdosta and Herschel Tompkins and wife Judy of Albany; three sisters, Nadine Russell of Moultrie, Barbara Spradley and husband Tommy of Moultrie and Mary L. Dunn and husband Mark of El Paso, Texas; a very special god-daughter, Summer Flowers of Moultrie; and numerous very special nieces and nephews that he loved and they loved him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by three brothers, Reacie, Tommy and Elzie Tompkins; and a sister, Juanita Van Allen.
