Faye Newberne Spence

Barbara LaFaye Newberne Spence, 87, passed away at the Colquitt Regional Senior Care on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Antioch Church Cemetery in Adel, Georgia, with Reverend Julian Griner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born on February 15, 1937, in Adel, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur McKinley Newberne and Leta Mae Demott Newberne. Growing up on the farm in Adel, she pursued musical training and excelled as a pianist and vocalist. She began her church ministry playing for the Antioch Methodist Church in Cook County at age 14. She was a Piano Teacher for 60 years and served numerous churches in Georgia and South Carolina as Choir Director and Pianist. She was a member and retired as a Pianist of the Westview Community Church in Albany, Georgia. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene Newberne and Vergil Newberne. 

Mrs. Spence is survived by her son, Julian Griner (Lisa) of Moultrie, GA; daughter, Cheri McLeod of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Jonathan Griner (Christi) of Andrews, SC, David Griner (Kasey) of Moultrie, GA, Crystal Majors of Spartanburg, SC, and Michele Fuller (Tyler) of Columbia, SC; and Eight great-grandchildren.
