Gene Murphy, 65, of Norman Park, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Emory University. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Norman Park with the Revs. Shane Ashley and Jimmy Voyles officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Don Nicholson, Ken Weaver, Carl Wesley Horne, Bob Meister, Mike Newsome, Greg Fitz, Dr. Ralph Warnock, Hugh Stringfellow and Gary Adams. Honorary casketbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church of Norman Park, and Kyle and Caleb Ashley. Born Dec. 4, 1946, in Moultrie, Murphy was the son of the late Melvin Esteese (Bo) Murphy and the late Leola Fletcher Murphy. He was the long-time manager at Rubo's Grocery in Norman Park as was an auto parts salesman. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Norman Park where he served on the deacon board. He was an avid Packer and Bulldog fan and recreation coach for many years. Survivors include his wife, Judy Tillman Murphy of Norman Park; a son, Scott Murphy and wife Wendy of Norman Park; two daughters, Joy Warnock and husband Stephen of Moultrie, Dorey Braswell and husband Casey of Norman Park; a sister, Virginia Lee (Ginny) Taylor of Moultrie; two brothers-in-law, Glen Tillman of Norman Park and Frank Tillman and wife Jean of Albany; a sister-in-law, Lenora Tillman of Hahira; grandchildren Annie Murphy, Kensley Braswell, Amber Murphy, Julia Warnock and Cason Braswell; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
