George Lawrence “Larry” Kirkland, 73, of Moultrie, passed away at Archbold Medical Center on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Moree officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born on May 31, 1950, in Millen, Georgia to the late George A. Kirkland and Earnestine “Tina” Waters Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland had a long and successful career in the banking and finance industry, retiring as the Vice President and loan officer from Southwest Georgia Bank after over years 30 of service. Outside of work, he had a passion for raising and training hunting dogs at his kennel, Pine Hollow Kennels, which he owned and operated for more than 25 years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years, as well as reading and watching Western movies. Mr. Kirkland was a member of the Optimist Club where he held several offices. Most importantly, he loved his family dearly and was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Kirkland is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Martha Lewis Baker Kirkland of Moultrie; children, Brad Baker and wife Deb of Marietta, and Kristi Sutton and husband John Paul of Norman Park; grandchildren, Anna Leigh Aldrich and husband Canon, Abby Sutton, Ada Sutton all of Norman Park, Erin Baker, and Ty Baker both of Marietta; sisters, Kay Sapp and husband Ruwis of Warwick, and Suzanne Brown and husband Ray of Albany; sisters in law, Diane Marchant of Hilliard, Florida, Shirlene Billings and husband Brad of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jenni Carter and husband Lamar of Moultrie; he also leaves behind a special niece and nephew, Haley Crosson and husband Bert of Tifton, and Scott Sapp of Leesburg; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends; and his beloved dog, Bear.
