Houston Barnes Hurley NORMAN PARK - Houston Barnes Hurley, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at his residence. Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, at Buck Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Al Lewis officiating. Honorary casketbearer will be Sr. Drill Sergeant Bobby Joe Dorsey, U.S. Army. Born on Nov. 10, 1933, in Tallahassee, Fla., he was the son of Houston Black Hurley and Evelyn Barnes Hurley. He was a retired warehouse supervisor with the Albany U.S. Marine Base, a U.S. Navy veteran, and of the Methodist faith. He served on the USS Oriskany and USS Boxer. He was awarded medals and decorations for Korean Service, United Nations, China Service, and National Defense. He was a member of The Grand Lodge of Georgia, F&AM Moultrie Lodge #381. "He loved his family and was committed to his country, loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid gardener," the family said. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Hurley Wisham. Survivors include his sweetheart of 56 years, wife Linda Lowry Hurley of Norman Park; son, Houston "Scooter" Barnes Hurley, III, and wife Deidre of Norman Park; daughters Cynthia Bowles and husband Jule of Cartesville, Ga., Lori Sumler of Moultrie, and Kathi Hatcher and husband Tim of Sale City, Ga.,; grandchildren, Erin Johnson, Robin Saunders, Rebecca Bowles, and Lori Beth Dorsey; great-grandchildren, Hurley Haney, Gage Dorsey, Rebecca Rudeseal, and Seth Dorsey; and his therapy dog and companion, Mattie. The family requests contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Norman Park or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
