Ida Ellen Butler O'Neal

Ida "Ellen" O'Neal, age 91, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 in Flagler Beach, FL.Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 12pm at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose of Sharon Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.Ellen was born on February 8th, 1927 in Indiana to Ida Allen and Robert Butler. Ellen's mother passed away shortly after she was born and she was raised by her father, her Aunt Hazel, and her stepmother Mary O'Neal Butler. She married Van Ex O'Neal, Jr. Ellen worked as a medical records clerk secretary for the Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base in Bay County Florida. All who knew her, enjoyed her quick wit and her laugh.Prior to a 10-year long journey with Alzheimer's, Ellen was often found casting a net from her dock in Lynn Haven, Florida, working on crocheting and sewing, tending to her cattleyas and flourishing garden, picking grapefruits from her trees, feeding cats, or cooking in her kitchen for her family. Ellen is proceeded in death by her parents, her sister and her brother, her husband Van, and her eldest son Van. Ellen O'Neal is survived by her sons James O'Neal (Julie) of Flagler Beach, Florida, Richard O'Neal (Kathy) of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Michael David O'Neal (Ryoko Kawabe) of Ayase, Japan; her grandchildren, Kelly O'Neal, Summer O'Neal Cranford, Rick O'Neal, Iris O'Neal Farrand (Morgan), Jessica O'Neal Hall (Andy), Rachel O'Neal, April O'Neal; and a legacy of great-grandchildren.
