James “Jim” Marion Clayton, 81, of Moultrie, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Father Jay Thomas, Reverend Donnie Eubanks, and Reverend Caleb Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service.
Born on April 10, 1943, in Doerun, Georgia, Jim was the son of the late Oscar Clayton and Evelyn Gertrude Howell Clayton. Jim proudly served in the United States Navy, a commitment that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and service. After his military career, he worked and retired from Firestone and Target Distribution Center, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his colleagues. Family was the cornerstone of Jim's life. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, from family gatherings to quiet evenings at home. His warmth, humor, and unwavering support created a nurturing environment that will be remembered fondly by all. Jim was a true outdoorsman whose spirit thrived in nature. An avid hunter, he cherished the quiet moments in the woods, where he felt most at home. His passion for the outdoors extended to fishing and hunting, where he often shared unforgettable adventures with family and friends. Jim was an excellent craftsman and artist. His hands created beauty in every form, from meticulously crafted woodwork to stunning paintings that captured the essence of the landscapes he adored. He took pride in sharing his skills with others, mentoring aspiring artisans and encouraging creativity in everyone around him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Chris Meadows.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Bonnie Sue Bacon Clayton; sons, James Scott Clayton and wife Lee, Adam Clayton and wife Sara, and Benjamin Clayton and wife Lori; grandchildren, Anna Clayton, Catherine Clayton, Audrey Clayton, Jac Clayton, Susan Clayton, Becca Clayton, Hardin Reeves, and Holden Reeves; sister Joy Meadows and Linda Davidson and husband Earl; sister-in-law, Sherry Cooper and husband Jerry; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Jim's body will be donated to science, reflecting his desire to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and health. He believed in the importance of giving back, even in death.
