James Douglas "Jim" Peters, Sr.

James Douglas “Jim” Peters, Sr., 92, of Moultrie, died at Magnolia Manor on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, with Reverend Jason Edwards officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Peters, Spencer Peters, Josh Peters, Will Peters, Andrew Johnson, John C. Peters, Sr., Floyd Peters, Harry Hinson, and Chuck Hinson. Members, past and present, of Kappa Sigma Fraternity will serve as honorary pallbearers in tribute to Jim’s lifelong dedication to the fraternity and the brotherhood he held so dear. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday, February 17, 2025, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.

Born on November 8, 1932, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Cleveland Peters & Nancy Elizabeth Cooper Peters. Born and raised in Moultrie, Jim graduated from Moultrie High School, Class of 1949, where he developed a lifelong love for the Colquitt County Packers. After graduating high school, he pursued his passion for agriculture at the University of Georgia, earning a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Class of 1956. Kappa Sigma Fraternity 

During his time at UGA, he was an esteemed member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he held numerous leadership roles, including Local and National Housing Director, two-term Grand Master of the Fraternity, and Alumni Advisor. 

Jim honorably served in the National Guard Army, demonstrating his commitment to service and his country. 

Jim dedicated 42 years of his career to Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he rose through the ranks to retire as Vice President of Sales. His leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on the company and those he worked with. 

Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was a loving father to his two sons and a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His love for UGA football was unmatched—he was their biggest fan, cheering them on every season with unwavering enthusiasm. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Cooper Peters and wife Ellen and Elizabeth Peters Hinson and husband Charles; and nieces, Louise Peters Coleman and Elizabeth “Beth” Hinson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Marie Hodges Peters of Moultrie; sons, James Douglas “Doug” Peters, Jr. and wife Wendy of Dalton and Daniel Hodges Peters and wife Susanne of McDonough; grandchildren, Brandon Peters and wife Nicki, Spencer Peters and wife Taylor, Ashleigh Peters and fiancé Andrew Johnson, Josh Peters, Will Peters and wife Hannah, Ashton Peters; great-grandchildren, Hudson Peters, Caden Peters, and Sophia Grace Peters; and several nieces and nephews, John C. Peters, Sr. and wife Debbie, Luellen Peters Tucker and husband Doug, Floyd B. Peters, Charles O. “Chuck” Hinson, III and wife Jennifer, Harry Hinson, and Katie Hinson; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Beta Lambda House Corporation, in memory of Jim Peters, 1042 Lake Oconee Rd. Bogart, Georgia 30622. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
