Jewel Juanita Childree (PICTURE) DOERUN Jewel Juanita "Nita" Childree, 98, of Doerun, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Pruitt Health Care. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, at Union Baptist Church in Doerun with the Rev. Lonnie Gibson and the Rev. Todd Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris Brooks, Sammy Taylor, Sonny Saunders, Ray Saunders, James Hawk and Morris Rouse serving as pallbearers. Born Aug. 17, 1916, in Doerun, she was the daughter of Joseph Lawhorne and Hattie Bell Lawhorne. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.O. Childree; a son, Rex Hershall Childree; and brothers, Garrett Lawhorne and Donald Laworne. Survivors include a son, Jerry Doyle Childree of Doerun; daughters, Faye Childree Gay and husband Wayne of Asheville, N.C., and Linda Childree Strickland and husband Keaton of Sale City; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
