John Newton Sands Jr., 63, of Doerun, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14, at Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., on Thursday, in Deep Bottom Cemetery with # 1 Hayward Johnson, Dean Johnson, Joshua Sands, Shane Sands, Matthew Sapp and Lucas Sapp serving as pallbearers. Born March 23, 1949, in Valdosta, Ga., he was the son of the late John Newton Sands Sr. and Thera Mae Johnson Sands. He was a route salesman and trainer with IBC "Merita" and he was a member of Lee Florida Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dannah Mauldin. Survivors include his wife, Linda Fae Purvis Sands of Doerun; sons, Michael Sands and wife Lorie of Perry, Fla., Sheldon Sands and wife Tammy of Perry Fla., and Robert Sands and wife Sarah of Falling Creek, Fla.; stepchildren, Thomas Lamb and wife Jackie of Hartsfield, Lisa Lamb Castanon of Moultrie, and Michelle Parker and husband Rob of Panama City, Fla.; brother, Kim Sands and wife Kathy of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters, Vickie Hannah and husband Tom of Tallahassee, Fla., and Tina Mauldin of Tallahassee, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, on Thursday June 14, at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
