MOULTRIE - Joseph Major, 81, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Tallahassee Memorial in Tallahassee, Fla. Services will be Friday, Feb. 5, at Kingdom Hall with Richard Balland officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memory Garden. Born on April 23, 1934, in Martin, S.C., he was the son of the late Joe Major and Cecilia Overstreet Major. He was a retired United States Postal Service mail carrier in Philadelphia, a U.S. veteran, and a Jehovah's witness. He was preceded in death by one sister, Cornelia M. Curry. Survivors include his wife, Ora Dean Floyd Major; stepsons, Seth Pitts and wife Tameka of Adel, and Jeremy Brown of Little Rock, Ark.; daughter, Jennifer Major and fiancé Nelson Hammond, Jr., of Philadelphia; stepdaughters, Sharlene Thomas and husband Michael of Adel, Jean Allison Horne and husband Dempsey of Adel, and Daphne Brown of Valdosta; sisters, Ethel M. Sadler of Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. Erline M. Patrick and husband Alphonso of Bessemer, Ala.; grandchild, Autumn Hammond of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 4, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
