Juanita Weeks

Juanita Waites Weeks, 97, of Moultrie passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13,
2022, at Magnolia Manor in Moultrie.
Born July 8, 1924 in Laurens County, GA, Juanita was the daughter of the late Clarence
Calvin Waites and Lola Pearl Stripling Waites. Juanita was an elementary school
teacher and librarian at Okapilco School in Moultrie for 30 years.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Weeks; a son, Steve Weeks;
sisters, Aubrey Waites Cannady, Lima Lazelle Waites Roberts, Hazel Waites Hartsfield
Long, and Angula Loyas Waites Hiers McGuill; and brothers, Clarence Cullen Waites,
Lonnie Calhoun Waites, and Jerry Foster Waites.
She is survived by a son, George Kyle Weeks and his wife Ana Serena; grandchildren,
Megan Weeks, Rachel Weeks, Caroline Weeks, Hannah Weeks, Rhetta Weeks, Laura
Weeks, and Evan Weeks; a brother, Lloyd “Mann” Waites; and caregivers Betty
Thornton, Betty L. Mitchell, and Ja’Narion Smith.
Juanita earned her Associate's Degree from Norman College, her Bachelor of Arts in
Education from Mercer University, and her Master of Library and Information Science
from Valdosta State University. Juanita’s lifelong passion for education influenced
generations of children, including her grandchildren.
After she retired from teaching, Juanita remained active in the Colquitt County Retired
Educators Association, the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, and the
American Cancer Society. She was a breast cancer survivor and took part in many
Relays for Life.
