Julian Lloyd Dorminey NORMAN PARK Julian Lloyd Dorminey, 85, of Norman Park, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Buck Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon McCranie officiating, assisted by the Rev. Danny Moree and Hilton Foster. Burial will follow in Buck Creek Church Cemetery with James Sutton, John Paul Sutton, Ricky Hembree, Glenn Chafin, Greg Keigans and Lamar Hickey serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be former students, Terry Baker, Jackie Sumner, Jerry Sumner, Bobby Norman, James Hunnicutt, Jerry Baker, Donald May, Dwayne Roberts, Jerry Hall and Wayne Folsom. Born Sept. 9, 1927, in Worth County, Ga., near Warwick, Ga., he was the son of the late Gus D. Dorminey and Julia Brown Dorminey. He moved to Colquitt County upon completion of a tour of duty in the United States Navy. He was a retired public school teacher and administrator serving Colquitt County School and its children for 30 years. He was active in school-related activities. He became a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church in 1950. He served as Sunday school teacher, as a deacon, and as treasurer for 35 years. He was also active in the Colquitt County Baptist Association, the Colquitt County Retired Teachers Association, and the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. He was president of Colquitt County Retried Teachers Association for several years and served in several leadership capacities at the state level. "After his retirement, he especially enjoyed being Santa Claus. Even when "off duty," children recognized Santa. He always took time to talk with children and encourage them to be good. His image can be seen in offices and homes throughout the community as children young and old sat on his lap and shared Christmas wishes," his family remembered of him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lexie Juanita Folsom Dorminey; brothers, Marvin, George and Gus D. Dorminey Jr.; and sisters, Sara Stone, Dorothy Powell and Inez Layfield. Survivors include his son, Lex Lloyd Dorminey and wife Debbie of Albany; daughters, Julia Juanita Dorminey of Norman Park and Sally Nathanne Dorminey and husband Ernie Moman of Valdosta, Ga.; a brother, Gerald Dorminey and wife Evelyn of Sigsbee, Ga.; sister-in-law, Wynell Dorminey of Pidgeon Forge, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer Dorminey, Ashley Dorminey, Sarah Moman and Nathan Moman; a special care giver, Barbara Willeby of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be today, Jan. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
