Katie Mae Harbin Walter, 76, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Capital Regional Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 23, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Murphy Cemetery. Born Sept. 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Murphy Harbin and Nancy Sloan Harbin and she grew up in Murphy, Ga. She married Charles W. Walter of Woodburn, Ill., in Murphy, Ga., on Oct. 12, 1957. She accompanied him during his Air Force career and to Tallahassee after retirement as a dedicated, conscientious homemaker and mother, her family said. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Gola Dunlap Harbin; and a granddaughter, Lauren M. Walter. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Michael Walter and spouse Traci of Hampton, Ga.; a daughter, Sharon Walter Shurford and spouse Richard of Youngstown, Fla.; six grandchildren, Joseph C. Walter, Michael N. Walter, Kathy M. Walter, Nancy K. Suford, Sarah E. Shuford Arnold and spouse Eric, and Caroline A. Suford; and one great-grandchild, Talulah Rue Mikulski. A memorial gift may be made to the Killearn Kiwanis Charities Foundation, Inc. at 3118 Ferns Glen Drive, Tallahassee, Fla., 32309. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., on Monday, prior to service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
