Lona Louise Buckner Bannister

Lona Louise Buckner Bannister, 93, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Agape Health & Rehab. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 100 West Blvd. in Moultrie, with Elder Blaine Pearce officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery with Scott Johnson, Michael Johnson, Stuart Thomas, Blaine Pearce, Blake Pearce and Chad Pearce serving as pallbearers. Born May 21, 1918, in Carroll County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late John Homer Buckner and Cora Lee Abercrombie Buckner. She worked many jobs during her life but most of her employment was spent as a manager/cook for several restaurants and as a seamstress for Friedlanders. She is well remembered for her cooking and her kindness to everyone. She was a loving caring friend, mother and grandmother," her family remembered of her. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Henry Bannister; brothers, James Buckner and Allen Buckner; sisters, Nell Crosby and Florence Buckner; granddaughter, Vickie Gray Turley; and great-grandson, Matthew Gray. Survivors include sons, Charles H. Bannister of Moultrie and Clemon L. Bannister and wife Gayle of Douglas, Ga.; daughters, Barbara McNatt of Jacksonville, Fla., Betty Lowder and husband Glen of Valdosta, Ga., Delaine Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Johnson and husband Jack of Thomasville, Ga.; brothers, Claude Buckner and wife Mattie Nell of Albany, Ga.; sisters, Johnnie Blanton and husband Cleve of Moultrie and Evelyn Lastinger of Atlanta, Ga.; special friend, Ludy Whitaker of Jacksonville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; and her caretakers at the Golden Apple and Cobblestone Nursing Facility.
