Luther William Spires, Sr., 62, of Norman Park, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his residences. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM Sunday, March 5, 2017 in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. The family will have a private memorial service with Rev. Stephan Massey officiating. Born August 12, 1954 in Cook Co., Georgia, he was the son of the late Lee Spires and Lillie Mae Spires Adams. He was employed at Pike Creek Turf Farm. Luther Spires was one of the finest men you ever met. He was considerate and thoughtful of everyone he met. He was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need. A hard working and family man, who loved his wife and children and cherished his grandchildren deeply. He loved and served him as he should. This is one man who will be sorely missed but never forgotten. His favorite quote was "If the Good Lord had'a made it any better, He'd kept it for himself." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Lee Spires and sisters, Eloise Summerville and Lois Virginia Hickman. Survivors include his wife, Penny Fox Spires; son, Luther Williams Spires, Jr. and wife Naomi of Norman Park; daughters, LeeAnn Spring Sheffel and husband Wayne of Brookings, Oregon, Candon Irene Spires of Moultrie; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Howard Spires and wife Mickey of Atlanta and Jackie Spires and wife Wanda of Norman Park; sisters, Marilyn Barber and husband Gene of Lenox, Sarah Mae Castleberry and husband Jackie of Ellenton and Louise Hunt and husband Ray of Omega. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
