Maribel Holmes Kadel, 96, of Moultrie, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at her home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Marston officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Baker Funeral Home. Born March 13,1916, Mrs. Kadel was daughter of the late Florence Hunt Holmes and James Edgar Holmes. She attended Shorter College and Valdosta State University. She worked as a lab technician at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, was a biology teacher at Moultrie High School and was an assistant with the Colquitt County Tax Assessor's office. She was a member of the Moultrie Service League, Sunset Country Club, the Moultrie Woman's Club and the Colonial Dames. Mrs. Kadel was the wife of the late Hubert Harold Kadel. She is survived by three daughters, Dottie Kadel Johnson and husband Smitty of Leesburg, Cashion Kadel Gore and husband Jim of Duluth, and Chung Soon Kim of San Jose, Calif.; a son, Clint Hubert "Bud" Kadel and wife Alane of Thomasville; three great-grandchildren Alex, Nic and Will Kadel, all of Thomasville; nieces Maribel Montgomery of Moultrie and Florence Mathis Holmes of Roswell; and nephews Jim Hunt Holmes of Columbia, Tenn., and James Edgar Holmes of Atlanta; and her beloved dog Corky. Mrs. Kadel also was preceded in death by brothers Hunt Holmes and Dr. Edgar Cashion Holmes; and a sister, Helen Mullican. Donations can be made to the Maribel H. Kadel Trust Fund at Trinity Baptist Church of Moultrie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
