Marion “Marvin” Lee Thompson, Jr., 72, of Moultrie, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with Reverend Andy Cashwell, Reverend Stanley Norman, Josh Thompson, and Justin Thompson officiating. Clint Murphy, Zack Murphy, Bruce Blease, Wes Blease, Alfred Hernandez, Brody Thompson, and Wyatt Thompson will serve as pallbearers. The employees of Thompson Electric will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 4, 2025, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
Born on June 6, 1952, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Marion Lee Thompson, Sr., and Gussie Miller Thompson. In 1987, he founded Thompson Electric, a business that not only provided for his family but also became a trusted name in the community. His work ethic, integrity, and dedication to excellence earned him the respect of many in the industry.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Marvin was a member and deacon at Mount Olive Baptist Church for over 30 years. He passionately served his congregation, offering wisdom, compassion, and guidance to all who came his way. Marvin was also a dedicated Sunday School teacher, inspiring countless children. Marvin’s love for his family and his community was evident in everything he did. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandsons, baling hay on his John Deere tractor. These moments created lasting memories and a strong bond between him and his grandchildren. Marvin’s legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and love for his family, faith, and community. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, and all who knew him.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his loving wife, Donna Taylor Thompson of Moultrie; sons, Justin Thompson and wife Mary Sue, and Josh Thompson and wife Lacoln all of Moultrie; grandchildren, Wyatt Thompson, Taylor Mae Thompson, Brody Thompson, and Georgia Grace Thompson; brother, Darrell Thompson of Moultrie; and sister, Anita Harrod of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Colquitt Regional Medical Center's Doctors, Nurses, and Staff, and also Colquitt Regional Hospice.
