Mary Elizabeth "Big Mama" Gay Hood,101, of Moultrie, died Sunday, August 23, 2020 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Voyles officiating and Rev. Wayne Woods assisting. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Michael Hood, Brandon Croft, Jared Horne, James Phillips, Louie Hood, and Mickey Hood will serve as pallbearers.
Born on November 4, 1918 in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Math Gay and Annie Belle Dampier Gay. She was a retired sales women for F.W. Woolworth and was a lifelong member of Eastside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William Ernest Hood; sons, Lamar Hood, and Lynwood Hood; daughter in law, Diane Hood; brothers, Elbert Gay, Arthur Gay, Earl Gay, Guy Gay, Mathie Gay, Bubba Gay, Bith Gay; sisters, Aline Gay Folsom, Francis Gay Clark, and Annie Ruth Gay Joiner.
Mrs. Hood is survived by her sister, Betty Gay Harrell of Moultrie; grandchildren, William Keith Williams and wife Kathy of Arizona, Todd Hood and wife Missy of Moultrie, Kimberly Croft and husband Bobby of Milledgeville, and Heather Horne and husband James of Moultrie; great grandchildren, Michael Hood and wife Sara of Moultrie, Brooke Hood Lowry and husband Cash of Moultrie, Kayla Croft of Milledgeville, GA, Brandon Croft of Milledgeville, GA, Jared Horne of Moultrie, Jade Horne of Moultrie, Brittany Williams, Brandy Williams, Michael Williams, and Justin Williams; great-great grandchildren, Lauren Lowry of Moultrie, Ridge Lowry of Moultrie, Heidi Hood of Moultrie, and Ella Lowry of Moultrie.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
