Peggy Cooksey Bridges, 96, of Doerun, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at Pruitt Health Magnolia Manor. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church Moultrie with the Rev. Wayne Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Jacob Hammock, Gabe Hammock, John McLeod, Will Stuckey, Matt Murphy, and Brad Tomlinson. Born on March 8, 1921 in Moultrie, she was the daughter to the late Charles Howard Cooksey and Inez Elder Cooksey. She was a homemaker and was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church Moultrie where she joined their fellowship in 1931. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and after the birth of her children, she began working in the church nursery. She taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School classes until 2008 but remained active in many areas of the church. In 1951, she formed a simple neighborhood garden club and chose the name Magnolia Garden Club. She served as Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Convention Chairman, a Georgia Garden Club Board member, and later became District Director of the Camellia District until 1985. She served as president of the Magnolia Garden Club for three separate terms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard "Bunk" Wallace Bridges, Sr.; son, Bernard Wallace "Wally" Bridges, Jr. and brother, Charles Howard Cooksey, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Gerri Bridges Cleckler and husband Jack of Doerun; son, Clifford Howard Bridges and wife Beth of Doerun; grandchildren, Dana Bridges Dupree and husband Tony, Colby Bridges and wife Kim, Lance Bridges, Jared Bridges and wife Marianne, Jonathan Bridges and wife Marilee, Charissa Cleckler Pritchett and husband Malcom, and Carrie Varnadoe; great grandchildren, Bo Bridges, Tripp Bridges, Carter Bridges, Emma Bridges, Barron Bridges, Bailey Pritchett, Della Pritchett, Sonny Cate Pritchett, Kayla Dupree, Justin Dupree, and Brock Dupree; great-great grandchild, Aubrey Mix; special friends, Linda Henderson and Sandy Oakes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 10am-11am, at First Baptist Church Moultrie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Moultrie Missions 400 S. Main St. Moultrie, Georgia 31768. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
