Stanley Earl Cheek, 78, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., today, Oct. 25, at Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Chad Bass, Steve Bass, Larry Byrd, Gary Wood, Andrew Swan and Mark Wood serving as pallbearers. Born May 28, 1933, in Gray, Ga., he was the son of the late Willis Earl Cheek and Annee Brown Cheek. He was a self-employed contractor and he was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Allen Cheek; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Akins; and a a sister, Annelle Wynne. Survivors include his wife Doris Byrd Wood Cheek of Moultrie; son, Gregory Earl Cheek and wife Phyllis of Moultrie; a brother, Henry M. Cheek and wife Elise of Woodsland, Texas; sister, Faye Cheek Evans of Macon, Ga.; grandchildren, Cory Earl Cheek and wife Katie of McDonough, Ga., Ashley Nichole Akins of Valdosta, Christie Cheek of Norman Park, Thomas Scott Cheek of Las Vegas, Nev., Shenan Womack of Michigan and Shawn Womack of Moultrie; great-grandchildren, Trace and Tyson Wiard, Samantha Yaroli and Brayden Scott Akins; step-children, Kathy Richter of Moultrie, Ricky Wood and wife Fay of Moultrie, Gary Wood and wife Kelly of Moultrie, Mark Wood and wife Marcella of Moultrie and Betty Pittman and husband Stan of Moultrie; nine step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. Visitation was held, on Monday, at the funeral home.
