Stanton Douglas Rumley, 84 of 299 Baldy Rd., Moultrie, Ga. passed away Oct. 23, 2012 at Archbold Medical Center, Thomasville. He was born Feb. 25, 1928 in Sterling, Ill., to the late Charles Jefferson Rumley and Opal Miles Rumley. He graduated from Norman College in 1952, Mercer University 1955, attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky.; was a construction inspector for years; served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949, in Italy for 11 months in occupation Army after WWII. He returned to Moultrie and retired as a Waste Water Plant Manager for the City of Moultrie. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Baldy Rumley of Moultrie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Helen Rumley of Monroe, N.C., William and Wendy Rumley of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Darrel Rye of Montezuma, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Pat Sorenson of Atkinson, Ill., Peggy Rumley of Verona, Pa.; grandchildren, Ian and Seth Rumley of Valdosta, Daniel, Caroline, Laura Rumley of Monroe, N.C., Jonathan Rumley of Bryn Mahr, Pa., Brandon Rye and wife Brittany of Moultrie, Rachel Garrett and husband David of Athens, Ga. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Dean Rumley and Alan Miles Rumley. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Cashwell officiating assisted by the Rev. Douglas Rumley and the Rev. Ronald Barrett. Interment will be held in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held this evening, Oct. 25, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Casketbearers will be his grandsons, Brandon Rye, Jonathan Rumley, Seth Rumley, and Chris Hampton, Marvin Thompson, Carlton Dunlap. Honorary pallbearers will be John Pope Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund.
