Born on November 30, 1941, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late William “Bill” C. Murphy and Audrey Lee Rentz Murphy. Rentz dedicated much of his life to his work as a mechanic for A&S Rentals and Moultrie Manufacturing Co., where he was known for his skill and expertise. Beyond his profession, he had a passion for tinkering and woodworking, often creating beautiful pieces that brought joy to his family and friends. Every year, Rentz nurtured a vibrant garden, but his greatest joy was growing sweet corn, a labor of love he eagerly shared with those around him. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to his family. Rentz took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Croft.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis Ann Murphy of Quitman; sons, Thomas Murphy, Jr. of Moultrie and Keith Murphy and wife Farrah of Valdosta; grandchildren, Stephanie Sasso and husband Dominick of Pensacola, FL, Charlie Murphy of Moultrie, Carson Murphy and Landon Murphy, both of Valdosta; great-granddaughter, Skylar Anne Mordecai of Pensacola, FL; sisters, Linda Lord and husband Claude and Patty Adams, both of Moultrie; and several nieces and nephews.
Rentz loved and was loved by many who are not named.
