Verlene Summerlin

Verlene Summerlin, 62, of Moultrie, died on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, In the chapel of Baker Funeral Home, with Mrs. Becky King and Ms. Claudia Tyson officiating. 

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born on October 1, 1962, in Homerville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Jo and Kizzie Summerlin. Verlene spent her life working as an escort for oversized load trucks. In this role, she exemplified hard work, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to safety. Verlene loved the open road, finding peace and freedom behind the wheel, whether on a quiet countryside drive or navigating bustling city streets. Her passion for driving mirrored her love for exploring life’s paths, both literal and figurative.

A voracious reader, Verlene had a deep fascination with true crime stories, always seeking to uncover the intricacies of human nature. She also held a cherished tradition of flipping through newspapers, savoring the richness of the written word and staying informed about the world around her.

Verlene cherished her family above all else, and her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her loved ones. Whether it was a simple family gathering or a lively celebration with friends, she brought energy, laughter, and warmth to every occasion. She was "full of life" and was always ready with a smile and an encouraging word.

She is survived by her wife, Michele Summerlin of Doerun; daughters, Amanda Wheeler and husband Melvin of Tifton and Claudia Tyson of Doerun; granddaughter, Miley Wheeler; special life partner, Pam Tyson of Doerun; 3 brothers and 4 sisters; and many extended family members, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.
