Virginia Norman Eldridge, 82 of Moultrie passed away at her son's and daughter-in-law's home in Fleming Island, Florida on December 7, 2017 Born on April 2, 1935 in Colquitt County, Georgia to Joe Wheeler Norman, Sr. and Ola McMullan Norman, Virginia lived in Colquitt County until she moved to California with her husband, Homer, who was in the Navy. She graduated from Moultrie High School in June 1953 after being married on April 25, 1953. She obtained permission from her Counselor, Ms. Ethel Adams to get married before graduation as Homer was being shipped overseas. In her younger years, Virginia was very active in the 4-H Club where she won trophies for home appliance repair. She acted in plays and wrote scripts for same. Virginia was Miss Colquitt County two years back to back as well. Her 4-H steers won grand champion two years in a row. She also sang in the school choir. She was a beautiful green eyed brunette and full of life. After her daughter, Lynn, was of age she was active in the girl scouts as well. In her travels she visited Germany, California, many camping sites, Cuba several times, Colorado and visited Homer while he was stationed in Washington D.C. She loved camping with family and friends and sharing her wealth of knowledge of cooking with anyone that would listen. She loved entertaining friends and associates from Winn- Dixie where she worked as a bookkeeper for twenty-three years in Jacksonville, Fl. She was a great host for Homer's military parties as well and loved to associate with his shipmates from his Naval Reserve Squadrons. As much as she loved all this, she loved her church members at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church much more and always looked forward to attending church services and carrying dinner each forth weekend and to other sister churches. She would plan her menu several weeks in advance and it was always a hit with the other members and visiting guest. She joined Sardis on May 26, 1969 along with her husband Homer and served it well during her attendance there. Being a Deacon's wife, she had the task of baking the communion bread for our Communion Services at our annual meetings in September of each year and loved to wash feet with her daughter, Lynn, and other sisters from various churches. Casketbearers will be Stephen Warren, Christopher Eldridge, Bradley Warren, Brother Heath White, Brother Gene Hart, and Robbie Gresham. Her other two great-grandsons, Cameron Eldridge and Blake Warren will be honorary pallbearers. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 plus years, her son Larry Eldridge (Marsha), her daughter Virginia Lynn Eldridge of Fleming Island, Fl; her granddaughters Diana Eldridge Warren (Stephen) and Lisa Eldridge , her pride and joy was her four fabulous great- grandsons, Christopher Eldridge, Bradley Warren, Cameron Eldridge and Blake Warren all of Middleburg, Florida, her sister Edith Smith of Valdosta, brothers Lincoln Norman, Nick Norman, Joe Norman, Jr. (Laverne) and Herman Norman all of Moultrie. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Hazel Norman and a granddaughter Christina Eldridge. Services will be held at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 11:00am with her pastor Elder Dwight Marshall, Elder Gordon Smith, Elder Jim Sandlin and Elder Lynwood Davis officiating. Her interment will be in Sardis Cemetery near the church. Her family will receive relatives and friends in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home on Ga. Hwy. 37 Monday, December 11, 2017 between 6pm & 8pm.
