Born on January 26, 1944 in Moultrie, GA to the late Willie Alton Murphy and Betty Jeanette Matthews Murphy. Volina lived a life of service to others. As the oldest of five children, Volina’s servant heart developed early as she helped raise her sisters. That passion for nurturing led her to a fulfilling career as a school teacher with the Head Start program where she worked for many years. Her Christian faith played a central role throughout her life and was evident in her love for others. In her community, her nurturing spirit was easily seen in her love for her neighbors and friends, ensuring they were fed, clothed, and cared for. One of her greatest joys in life was serving on the Storehouse volunteer team at Heritage Church for the past 12 years. Affectionately known as “Grammy” by her grands and great-grands, Volina was a beloved sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who welcomed and loved on everyone she met. An amazing artist, gifted seamstress, and wonderful cook, her life can best be summed up in one of her favorite sayings, “We didn’t have much, but we always had love.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert LeRoy “Bob” McClain; sisters, Sue Boyd and Robbie Sloan.
Survivors include daughters, Donna Evert and husband Harry of West Union, South Carolina, and Deirdre Jo Taylor and husband Joe of Norman Park, Georgia; grandchildren, Misty Coffey and husband Peter, Christi Riley and husband Nolan; Amy Farg and husband Aiad, Christina Woods, Christopher Simpson; great-grandchildren, Wynnrie Riley, River Riley, Leo Riley, Lenora Riley, Aspen Coffey, Everly Coffey, Cayden Hyde, Elizabeth Hyde, Weston Woods, and Aspen Woods; sisters, Barbara Morris and husband, Royce of Ellijay, Georgia, and Lequita Bennett of Deland, Florida.
