William "Bill" Jennings Hiers, 91, of Moultrie, died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Westview Cemetery with Rev. Julian Griner officiating.
Born on April 30, 1928, in Ellenton, Georgia, he was the son of the late B Hiers, Cassie Sorrell Hiers and Eva Giles Hiers. He joined the United States Army then returned home to farm with his family. He later retired from working at the Marine Corp Logistics Base in Albany. He enjoyed being a member of the Moose Lodge for over 46 years. During his membership, he served as governor 2 different times and was awarded the Pilgrim Degree. He was an avid fisherman, and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Hiers, Bud Hiers, Sid Hiers, and Baker Hiers; sisters, Lois Hall and Grace Sapp; and daughter, Gina Elkins.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Strange Hiers of Moultrie; sons, William Glenn Hiers and wife Carol of Loudon, Tennessee and Kent Elkins of Moultrie; daughters, Kathy McLean and husband Jim of Moultrie, Amy Griffin and husband Ricky of Moultrie, Susan Corley and husband Doug of Moultrie; Grandchildren, Megan Ford and husband Gates of Doerun, Buster Elkins of Doerun, Holly Johnson and husband Zane of Norman Park, Shianna Corley of Moultrie, Nathan Corley of Moultrie, Landon Griffin of Moultrie; Great Grandchildren, Madison Ford and Bowen Johnson; Sister, Hazel Long of Moultrie; brother, Gene Hiers and wife Bernice of Moultrie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 6pm - 8pm, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the V.A. hospital.
