Mrs. Winnie Powell Dorsey, 96, of Norman Park, passed away Sunday September 25, 2016 at her residence. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Norman Park with the Rev. Shane Ashley officiating and assisted by Rev. Jimmy Volyes. Interment will follow in Leila Church Cemetery in Omega. Casketbearers will be Mrs. Dorseys great grandsons, Jay Gray, Justin Bentley, Kyle Bridges, Thomas Spurlin, Wesley Chambless, Justin Schmitt. Honorary Pallbearer will be David Powell, Keith Powell, Richard Powell, Ricky Roberson and the Deacons of First Baptist Church Norman Park. Born November 9, 1919 in Colquitt Co., she was the daughter of the late Dave and Hattie Bell Powell. She was formerly employed with Georgia Baptist Assembly in Norman Park. Mrs. Dorsey enjoyed cooking for her family and was famous for her thin layer chocolate cake and her chicken and dumplings. Mrs. Dorsey loved her family and her church, First Baptist Church Norman Park. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dorsey was also preceded in death by her husband, Tolbert Dorsey in June 1992; a son, Harvey Dorsey; brothers, John, Toby, Buford, and Rufus Powell; sister, Idella Roberson; grandson, Johnnie Gray, Mike Gray and David Dorsey; and a great grandson, Mark Dorsey, Jr.. Survivors include her daughter, Helen Veal and husband Jerry of Norman Park; granddaughters, Debbie Bridges and husband Greg, Kathy Spurlin and husband Tuck all of Sylvester, Pam Bearden and husband Lloyd of Albany, Cheryl Lavender and husband Phil of Worth Co., Jerri Lynn Cooper and husband Randy of Valdosta; grandsons, Mark Dorsey of Savannah, Clark Dorsey of Atlanta, Anthony Dorsey of Worth Co., Chris Veal and wife Tracy of San Antonio, TX; daughter in law, Margie Dorsey and brother in law Joe Otis Dorsey; 14 great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Tuesday September 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church Norman Park. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church Norman Park.
